Multifrequency Impedance Analysis by Dietosystem

Human im touch is the multifrequency impedance analyzer developed by Dietosystem to provide nutrition professionals with a portable, versatile, and reliable solution for the assessment of hydration and body composition.

The device comes with the Dietosystem Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) software, which allows advanced evaluations of nutritional status and generates a complete professional report.
The software is continuously updated and reviewed in collaboration with hospitals and universities, based on the latest scientific evidence.

Measurements acquired in the 5 to 250 kHz range ensure highly accurate assessment of body hydration and nutritional status.

Human im touch is a medical device compliant with Directives 93/42/EEC and 2007/47/EEC.

The Device: Human im touch

Human im touch is a certified medical device. Its large display allows users to enter and save patient data, acquire impedance measurements (5–250 kHz), and view results both numerically and graphically.

The device connects to a PC via USB cable or Bluetooth.
Its medical-grade power supply ensures safe use during patient visits, guaranteeing both patient safety and operational continuity for the professional.

The instrument performs automatic calibration at startup to ensure measurement accuracy and has a continuous operating autonomy of 8 hours.

Multifrequency Analysis

The multifrequency system measures impedance, phase angle, reactance, and resistance at five frequencies: 5 kHz, 10 kHz, 50 kHz, 100 kHz, and 250 kHz.

Multifrequency analysis provides a more accurate evaluation of hydration by distinguishing extracellular and intracellular compartments.
At low frequencies, the alternating current flows mainly through the extracellular space, while at higher frequencies it also penetrates the intracellular compartment.

The ratio between high and low frequencies reflects fluid distribution and serves as an easy and intuitive nutritional indicator.

For each impedance parameter acquired, the software displays reference charts illustrating their nutritional significance—useful for interpreting the subject’s electrolyte and metabolic status.

Segmental Analysis

Human im touch Segmental allows the assessment of body composition distribution across different segments (arms, legs, trunk) using a 6-terminal probe.

For each body segment, the software evaluates muscularity, adiposity, hydration, and mineral content.
Segmental analysis is particularly valuable in sports nutrition or when designing targeted therapeutic interventions.

Clinical Record

The software includes a comprehensive clinical record that, in addition to personal and family anamnesis, allows professionals to prescribe laboratory tests important for evaluating the patient’s nutritional status and record the results.
Out-of-range values are automatically flagged based on official reference ranges.
The software allows long-term monitoring and creation of customized diagnostic protocols.

Developed in collaboration with leading specialists, the system includes screening questionnaires for gastrointestinal disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, malnutrition, and cardiovascular risk.

Vector Analysis

The vectorial chart provides an immediate qualitative analysis of body composition, with particular focus on hydration status and lean mass variation.

Vector analysis is based on direct measurement of resistance and reactance normalized for height, with the resulting vector displayed within three population-specific confidence ellipses.
The graph also enables comparison of the patient’s last three visits, allowing professionals to monitor nutritional trends over time.

Anthropometric Assessment

The Dietosystem BIA software allows recording of skinfold thickness and minimum circumferences, enabling the assessment of constitutional biotype and cardiovascular risk, completing the nutritional evaluation.

The software also allows entry and monitoring of handgrip strength, measured using a dynamometer. Combined with validated screening questionnaires, this supports sarcopenia risk assessment.

Hydration Analysis

The software automatically selects the most appropriate regression equations validated in scientific literature to calculate total body water (TBW) and its distribution into intracellular (ICW) and extracellular water (ECW).

The sodium/potassium ratio provides additional insight, thanks to the multifrequency approach.
Results are displayed with color-coded bar graphs and reference ranges for immediate interpretation.

Body Composition Analysis

The two-compartment analysis provides an evaluation of fat mass (FAT) and fat-free mass (FFM), also normalized for height, for a more accurate assessment.

Body cell mass (BCM) and skeletal muscle mass (SM) give further detail on the patient’s nutritional and metabolic status.
Visceral fat measurement completes the analysis, providing an indicator of cardiometabolic risk.

Report

The Dietosystem BIA report can be fully customized according to professional or patient needs.
Reports can be printed in a summary format or include attachments, such as:

  • Explanations of the clinical significance of each parameter
  • Nutritional assessment charts

Before printing, the report can be previewed for final review.

Follow-Up

The Dietosystem BIA software makes patient follow-up quick and intuitive through a detailed history log recording all visit results.
Patient progress is displayed via color charts for all key parameters and body components.
The visit history can be customized by selecting the most relevant charts for clinical evaluation.

Integration with the Dietosystem Suite

Dietosystem BIA shares its database with other software in the Dietosystem Nutritional Suite, such as Skinfold Thickness Analysis and Dietary Therapy.
This allows seamless sharing of patient data and results between applications, with real-time updates.

The goal is to simplify the professional’s workflow and enable diet therapy based on comprehensive diagnostics.

Connection with the Dietosystem App

The Dietosystem App allows nutritionists to connect with patients using a personal access code.
This enables professionals to send reports directly to the patient’s smartphone.
Patients can communicate with their nutritionist through a message board or chat.

Thanks to this app, nutritionists can monitor patient progress efficiently and strengthen client engagement and loyalty through an advanced digital tool.
